As part of JOCANIMA’s campaign of promoting product stewardship and good relations with clients, the Plantation Business (PB) team and Product Development (PD) team of JOCANIMA Davao conducted a one day stewardship seminar for the employees of Davao Agricultural Ventures Corporation (DAVCO). The seminar, which was held in Trellis & Vines restaurant in Matina, Davao City on February 22, 2010 was attended by 50 participants— spray men, warehouse personnel, and pesticide mixers.

Important information on chemical handling and safety was the day’s topic, where Mr. Roentgen “Roy” G. Dapon, Product Development Executive, discussed Module 1 covering Basic Information about Pesticides. Module 2 on Chemical Proper Handling and Hazards was presented by Mr. James “Jong” E. Bagayao, Plantation Business Executive.

In the afternoon, session was opened by the only toxicologist in Mindanao, Dr. Mercedes M. Maat, presenting Safety Precautions and First Aid on Poisoning Incidence.  After all presentations, an open forum was held where the participants’ questions were raised and answered.

Noteworthy was the  participants’ useful suggestions on how the seminar may be improved, specifically a step by step procedure on putting on of the complete protective outfit of spray men, and a practical drill on what should be done during actual poisoning incidences in the field.

The second batch of the seminar will be on March 1, 2010, to be held at Lantaw Bukid Resort in Calinan, Davao City.
